Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a chronic condition that is underlined by sustained periods of inattentiveness, hyperactivity, and impulsive behavior.
Before we shift our focus to the central discussion, we must comprehend the indications of ADHD. Experts agree that symptoms of ADHD vary from one child to another. They also concur on the fact that there are three sure signs of the mental health issue.
These are known as inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. If a child exhibits a demeanor that involves distraction and disorganization, then it is known as being primarily inattentive. Additionally, the indications of hyperactivity and impulsiveness continue to diminish as the child grows older.
The third type of symptom is essentially a combination of the types which is why it is merely known as the combined type.
Tests and Diagnosis
Naturally, children who have ADHD have issues functioning correctly in school and at home as well. This makes treating ADHD imperative. If left unchecked, the learning disability can create detriment in both classrooms and households.
Parents and teachers must be extremely vigilant if they observe that children show signs of ADHD at home or in class. There are several red flags which both parties can notice and then do an ADHD screening test for the child.
For instance, if a child is unable to pay attention properly, or makes reckless mistakes in mundane tasks or schoolwork, then there may be cause for concern. If they do not listen to run of the mill instructions, especially when these are given directly and it affects their menial tasks, these can be construed as indications that the child has ADHD.
Moreover, children who cannot plan and arrange their activities and those who carry out trifle tasks by showing a poor attitude or lack of commitment, they may well have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
There are several other signs of ADHD as well, which is fortunate since guardians of afflicted children can latch onto any one of these and then consult medical professionals. If they tend to lose things which are required for activities like their toys, pencils, books and the likes, if they are easily disturbed and are extremely forgetful, then these are further indications that they have a mental health concern.
Children with ADHD are also likely to squirm while they are seated. This transpires in conjunction with them being quite fidgety. They may not stay in one place for too long and run around close by or climb to a higher position when in fact they should merely remain seated.
This is part of a child’s inclination to be overwhelmingly hyperactive. They may always appear like they are on the go and do not feel the need to stay in one place at all. Besides their zealous levels of activity, they may be characteristically hyperverbal. Examples include answering questions before they are completed and speaking out of turn as well.
Such kids are generally impatient and show rude behavior like interrupting others when they are involved in the run of the mill activities like talking or playing a game.
